Highlands Elementary School promotes an inclusive environment for students, designed for their success. The school is part of the Duval County Public School system and has served the Highlands community since 1958. It offers education from prekindergarten through fifth grade and enrolls over 400 students.
In addition to core academic programs emphasizing the importance of math and reading, Highlands Elementary offers speech, language, occupational therapy, inclusion and full-time guidance programs. The school offers tutoring for students who need extra assistance and promotes a Summer Boost program each July.
At the “Eagles’ Nest,” as the school is known to students, creative extracurricular activities, including art, music and media, are available for student participation. Physical education is an essential part of the curriculum, and children remain active with field sports and playground time. Highlands Elementary encourages parents to become involved through its Parental Involvement Plan, which asks families to read with their children, ensure on-time arrival at school and help their children follow the student dress code. Highlands Elementary celebrates its students and faculty throughout the year with special recognition, holiday parties, fun events and a Spring Carnival.
