St. Matthew’s Catholic School, serving students for more than 70 years, is a neighborhood tradition.
As part of St. Matthew’s Catholic Parish, the school began as a kindergarten with 36 students in 1951. Today, more than 200 students in prekindergarten through eighth grade attend the school. St. Matthew's Catholic School shares a 14-acre campus with the church and provides a mixture of faith and knowledge in every student's education.
Mindfulness is key to the school’s culture and students learn to engage in community service. In addition to core subjects, students participate in religious studies and a Friday Mass. The school is fully accredited by the Florida Catholic Conference.
St. Matthew’s Catholic School includes a gymnasium and sports fields where students in fifth through eighth grades can participate in team sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball and cheerleading. The school also has a stage with theater lighting that is perfect for the annual talent show, student project displays, pep rallies, fun runs and a summer camp. St. Matthew’s Catholic School strives to develop the whole child, which includes providing emotional support.

The school used to be great. It went downhill within a year, and all of the longtime teachers left. It got so bad that some teachers left mid-year. They constantly play musical teachers. SMCS is wonderful school. They’re very helpful and accommodating for students that have IEP’s (or just need a little extra help). We switched schools threes ago and the regret is that we didn’t do it sooner.

I have 2 boys who have attended since pk4. We love it here. One has a learning disability and has been given so many opportunities from speech to extra help with title 1 and more time on assignments.
