Home of the Wildcats, Mount Zion Elementary School upholds a mission to work closely with students, staff, parents and the community at large to provide the best possible education and future for its students.
The curriculum is based on an analysis of abstract themes and developing complex thinking processes. In addition, the school has a National STEM/STEAM Day—science, technology, engineering, art and math—each November. Various creative programs, such as “Winter Dress Down Week Fun” invite children and parents to get creative with their outfits. After-school programs include a dance studio in addition to presentations and programs such as Unity Day and Anti-Bullying that serve to promote inclusion. The faculty is bilingual, and children learn sign language during interactive story time. Students wear uniforms based on the school’s mascot colors of red, white and navy.
Part of the Charleston County School District, Mount Zion enrolls approximately 250 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade with an overall student-to-teacher ratio of 14-to-1.
