Bridges/Wyandot Academy’s mission is to provide students with the opportunity “to experience academic and behavioral success through individualized comprehensive instruction in a safe and caring environment.” Located inside the former Fairfax Elementary School building, Bridges Academy is a public, specialized day school serving grades K-12 up to age 21. Their program provides educational services to students with disabilities that do not find success in general education settings. Bridges Academy is not a neighborhood school; the specialized educators serve students from across the Kansas City School District. Bridges/Wyandot Academy does not offer any clubs or activities at this time; however, students can participate in extracurricular activities through their home schools, and Bridges Academy will provide transportation if students choose to participate. Known as the Bolts (like lightning bolts), the student population ranges from 15 to 75 depending on the school year. Although Bridges has a lower graduation rate than the district average, the dedicated faculty and support staff are trained to support students in every way they can and help them reach their full potential. The smaller student population is beneficial in that it allows educators to have more one-on-one time with each pupil, providing them with the individualized care that can help them to develop academically as well as socially.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
