New Stanley Elementary School, located in the northern section of Argentine is near Silver City Park and Emerson Elementary School. It’s one of the 28 elementary schools in the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District, and serves about 300 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The school gets its name from Henry Morton Stanley, the Welsh American politician and explorer famous for his expeditions and for finding the legendary missionary and explorer Dr. David Livingstone in central Africa. The school was initially built in 1889 but was destroyed in a fire in 1912. The school was rebuilt around 1915 and has been upgraded several times. New Stanley encourages its students to reach their fullest academic potential and pursue greatness. Students of New Stanley score higher than the district average in math, English, language arts and science. It has also been recognized as an Elementary and Secondary Education Act National Distinguished School. Like many elementary schools in the district, students of New Stanley can attend an after-school program called Kid Zone, which engages them in academically enriching activities.
