Maynard Elementary School (Maynard) is a small public school located at 737 College Street in Knoxville, Tennessee’s Mechanicsville neighborhood. When it opened in 1897, the school was named in honor of Horace Maynard — an American diplomat, U.S. representative for Tennessee, and professor at the University of Tennessee.
Here, approximately 130 students attend pre-K through fifth grade under the guidance and instruction of around 40 staff members. The entire school team is proud to be the courageous ‘Tigers’ of Maynard.
If you live outside the one-mile area around Maynard, known as the Parental Responsibility Zone (PRZ), Knox County Schools offers free transportation to and from school. Although residents within the PRZ are not eligible for transportation services, if you opt to not drive your student, it’s a quick walk or bike to school via sidewalks in the school’s vicinity — and throughout most of Mechanicsville.
After completing fifth grade at Maynard Elementary School, students in Mechanicsville are zoned to attend Bearden Middle School.

I went to Maynard Elementary when I lived in Knoxville, from 1961 - 1964. At that time, I had the best teachers and loved every one of them. I'm happy to see that it's still standing and going strong.

i love Maynard. I have four kids who goes there and they love the school and their teachers. I really love Ms. Mayo, she is very helpful to the parents and to the maynard school. I love the whole staff at Maynard Maynard focus on the students needs and how to improve them.

My child has been bullied relentlessly because of her race (she's white), and when I spoke with the principal about it, she was accused of lying about it. Most of the teachers are excellent, but because of the principal we are looking for other schooling options for my daughter. No child should ever...
