Founded in 2005, Lakewood Catholic Academy, or LCA, serves approximately 700 students from prekindergarten through eighth grade. LCA cares about creating a welcoming learning community, starting on the first day of school as musicians play “When the Saints Go Marching In” upon arrival.
LCA Saints spend their days engaged in a concept-based curriculum that is implemented through contextual learning, which on one day may look like students turning their desks into tents. On another day, you might see students from French class recreating French school traditions of taping fish on each other’s backs. The school is situated on nine acres on Lake Erie’s shore, allowing plenty of space for outdoor learning overlooking the smallest of the Great Lakes.
LCA’s administrators and teachers emphasize the ethical importance of recognizing the common humanity that unites all people. As students develop creative fundraising projects, they learn about the needs of the target communities, which may be domestic or international. This broad focus is also part of the school’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
High-quality enrichment and extracurricular opportunities are also available at LCA. Students can sign up for Academic Challenge, Eager Engineers, or any of more than a dozen other clubs on campus. Students looking to participate in organized sports can choose from cross country, volleyball, football, basketball, lacrosse, track and field, ski club or intramural sports.
