The excitement for learning is evident throughout the halls of Roosevelt Elementary in southern Lakewood on Athens Avenue. This highly rated public school serves more than 200 students in grades prekindergarten through fifth. Administrators, staff, and teachers here are committed to delivering a curriculum that both inspires and encourages students’ academic and social development, as well as recognizing consistent attendance. This dedication earned Roosevelt the High Progress School of Honor status from the Ohio Department of Education. Classroom activities and projects throughout the school may involve hands-on manipulatives and team building. Students here create together, care for the environment in Project Plant It!, and can join dance team in fifth grade. Roosevelt is proud to house a book vending machine. Students earn tokens through everyday activities, and they use the tokens to select books that look fun and interesting. The available books suit all reading levels from kindergarten through fifth grade. Roosevelt Elementary School leadership is active in involving students’ parents and the neighborhood in the school’s health and success. The active Parent Teacher Association organizes food drives and fundraisers to teach students the value of caring for others. The Roosevelt Elementary community gathers for Trunk or Treat, Book Bingo Night, or in their pajamas for movie nights in the gymnasium.
