The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Downtown Magnets High School is a school I don't regret going to. The diversity of students and teachers combined with the small population allowed me to know other's interests, personalities, and backgrounds effectively. The hospitality provided by the staff and students made me feel I could make a difference, whether being captain of the track & field and cross country my senior year or building strong bonds with my teachers and classmates with whom I'm still friends today. The teachers and staff I still abide by their teaching methods and advice in college at UC Davis today. Whether that's Mr. Berba's and Ms. Oh's writing techniques for history, Ms. Jacob's psychology notetaking and definition methods, or advice I've been given from the amazing and enthusiastic staff, Mr. Teer, Mr. Plascensia, and Mr. Torres. Downtown Magnets is an experience I want to live again even for a day because of how amazing and breathtaking the moments were.

So far my experience at DMHS has been very pleasant socially, and is a bit challenging academically. I originally chose the school because of it's IB program, and through that I've made a lot of friends, but I also have a lot of homework from the amount of Ap and honors classes I have to take. If there was one thing I could change about the school, I'd probably add a guitar or music class.
This school has achieved outstanding academic achievement that makes it stand out in Los Angeles, but unfortunately, this has dwindled in recent years. The environment at the campus is extremely competitive amongst students, and the stressful feeling is excessively seen throughout the entire year. D...
I would rate this school experience a 9/10 because most of the adults in this school are nice and respectful to students around and they're taking responsibility most of the time.
I don't know why this school only gets a rating of 7 on comparison with similar schools because this school is great! My son chose to go to DMHS because of the computer programming track and it has been well worth the effort of getting up at 5:30 AM to catch the school bus to downtown. This is a sma...
