Starting off as a parish in 1921, Our Lady of Guadalupe School ended up growing into a religious education center for the community. Now a private Catholic school, Our Lady of Guadalupe School enrolls kindergarten through eighth-grade students in eastern Montecito Heights around the Rose Hill neighborhood. Established in 1957, the school sits on a hill among towering Italian cypress trees. Approximately 120 students attend this private school, allowing for individualized instruction. Our Lady of Guadalupe School bases its curriculum on California State Standards and Archdiocese of Los Angeles guidelines. In addition to studying traditional subjects, students also attend religious classes where they learn more about their Catholic faith and have the gospel message implemented into their curriculum. The two-year Sacramental Preparation program celebrates students’ Reconciliation and First Communions. Summer school sessions are available for first through eighth graders. The school also offers several enrichment programs and activities, including student council, choir and visual arts. Students are encouraged to participate in community service projects. Upper-level students can join sports teams that compete in the Catholic Youth Organization of Los Angeles league. The school’s recreation facilities include shaded play areas among trees and a large court with lined areas for basketball or other sports.

When I attended the school, I remember the teachers being very understanding but at the say time being very challenging. They always wanted to do whatever it took to help you succeed.
