Immaculata Classical Academy is a relatively new private Catholic school in Clifton Heights. It was founded in 2010 with just 19 students, serving pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. It has since grown to serve nearly 200 students, now through the 12th grade, and in 2016 became a member of the Archdiocese Schools of Louisville. It focuses on delivering a classical education.
The school’s mission is to provide a rigorous education in liberal arts that produces young adults of character, virtue and holiness. The school motto, “Pulchritudo, Veritas, Bonitas,” translates to beauty, truth and goodness. Its curriculum includes theology, science, mathematics, humanities, grammar, Latin and music. Given the school’s brief history, data about college readiness or graduation rates is not yet available.
Immaculata is an inclusive school, offering access to students with special needs, specifically those with Down Syndrome. The school hosts events such as a speaker series and fundraising dinners.
The school's policy follows the philosophy that classrooms should reflect natural proportions, so each classroom generally incorporates one to two children with special needs, or about 15 to 20 percent of its total student body. Along with Down Syndrome students, the school serves those with Aspergers, Prader-Willi and severe mental challenges.
