Named after Parent Teacher Association founder Alice McLellan Birney, Birney Elementary School has honored the legacy of the educator and activist for 40 years. Serving the needs of almost 700 students, this campus on Smyrna Powder Springs Road welcomes children in the community into a supportive learning environment that can be customized to each student’s needs. Besides upholding the standard Georgia Core Curriculum, Birney Elementary offers a number of classes not often seen at the elementary level, including targeted and advanced learning programs and arts integration. By recognizing and encouraging gifted students at an early age, the school hopes to encourage future ongoing success in honors programs for middle school, high school and beyond. Whether students are participating in chorus club or buckling down to complete the school's rigorous study program, Birney Elementary School seeks to provide each individual child with what they need.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

There was no attention to detail and she had no idea how to help my child learn. Despite all my child’s paperwork cle...

It has disappointed me. My child is in Kindergarten and comes home misreable. They are not channelling in on the uniqueness of each child. They are following the book and ignoring learning styles. My child is well behaved most of the time. She tends to act like a typical 6 year old sometimes. For ex...

If you as a parent are involved then this school is great and the teachers will do whatever it takes to help your child be the best they can be. The whole school is j...
