Neighboring the campus of Desert Ridge High, Desert Ridge Junior High School serves more than 1,000 students in seventh and eighth grades. Although the school is in Mesa, Desert Ridge operates as part of the Gilbert Public Schools District.
At this AVID Demonstration School, which implements the Advancement Via Individual Determination program school-wide, the faculty and staff prioritize preparing students for the transition to high school and college. Aside from a junior high honors program, students can broaden their skills for the 21st century in electives ranging from computers to industrial technology. Students can also choose to take a world language including Spanish, French, German, Japanese or American Sign Language.
Outside of the core curriculum, Desert Ridge Rattlers can hone musical talents in band, orchestra and choir, or dabble in the fine arts. If students are more athletically inclined, they can find camaraderie in several interscholastic sports, ranging from baseball and cross country to basketball and flag football, among others.
Throughout the year, Desert Ridge also engages students with field trips, spirit weeks, respect retreats and fundraisers to support local charities. The school also hosts a series of guest speakers from local institutions to help every student feel like a part of the community.

I have been teaching at this school for almost 20 years. Desert Ridge Junior High has an exceptional feeling of community. It is a place where the staff really care about kids. It is my home away from home and I am proud to be a Rattler.
