Mater International Prep is a non-profit, public charter middle school serving students from sixth through eighth grade in the Allapattah neighborhood and surrounding areas. Students usually matriculate to the institution from Mater Academy of International Studies, making for a smooth transition, seeing as the two institutions are located on the same campus. Along with sharing a location, they also share the same goal to spark a desire for knowledge in all disciplines of the curriculum by creating an enriched learning environment, and fostering within students “…a sense of purpose, a belief in their own efficacy, and a commitment to the common good.” As an institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Mater International Prep provides students access to programs such as Ready Reading, Ready Math, Accelerated Reader, Springboard, and tutoring, among others. These offerings are provided along with the core curriculum in a multi-age setting, which helps to foster a challenging learning environment. Along with the in-school offerings, Mater also provides before and after school care options. This serves to provide additional assistance to parents, as the institution relies heavily on parental support. In this way, Mater International Prep seek to aid families within the Allapattah neighborhood, by providing a safe, progressive learning environment for children to thrive.
