Escuela Vieau is a high-achieving elementary school in the Milwaukee Public School district and is located in the city’s urban Walker’s Point neighborhood. The school offers both monolingual and bilingual curriculum paths that focus on improving students’ reading, math, science and writing skills. Children in preschool through the eighth grade attend Vieau.
The school was built in 1894, designed by notable Wisconsin architects Ferry & Clas. In 1927, the school changed its name to honor Jacques Vieau, a French-Canadian trader and south side Milwaukee founder and pioneer. Today, the school is officially called Escuela Vieau but is known as simply “Vieau” to Milwaukee natives.
Vieau has a specialized focus on physical education, art, music, band, robotics, Project Lead the Way, Engineering is Elementary, technology, English as a second language, parent coordination and guidance.
The school partners with community organizations to enhance and improve student experiences. Vieau also offers an after-school and summer program that provides academic support, GEAR UP college-readiness activities, sports teams, chess club, instrumental lessons, recreational activities and more.

There is a welcoming environment to this school. Teachers work tirelessly to meet the common core, and to get effective scores on the Star test.
