Despite being underfunded, The Sound school takes a unique approach to educating its students. You will not be sitting in a classroom from seven to three every day, but rather will be out doing hands-on work in the aquaculture field of study. Fishing, sailing, and diving are just a few examples of what classes may entail. This community is enriching in every aspect, especially for those who feel they have. been failed by the traditional education methods.

I have been apart of the Sound School community for four years. The people here are so nice and the teachers are very helpful. The school is right on the Long Island Sound and we participate in many on the water activities like sailing or rowing.

The teachers really care about the students and theres a deeper connection to the school community. You don't feel like you are just a number or a faceless student in the crowd. The school is small which allows for individualized help and there are many systmes in place for students to utilize that help them progress year after year and onto college. Even after having left i still remain in contact with my teachers because they have become not only my mentors but people i would consider friends.
