Arthur Ashe Charter School is one part of the Firstline Schools charter network, which operates five campuses throughout the greater New Orleans area. Located at 1456 Gardena Drive in New Orleans’ Fillmore neighborhood, the college preparatory school offers transportation to and from campus daily as well as before and after-care programs. It is Americans with Disabilities Act compliant and enrolls more than 800 students. Arthur Ashe Charter serves children from kindergarten through eighth grade and offers both personalized learning programs and athletics such as soccer, volleyball, cheerleading and flag football. Arthur Ashe Charter School has numerous extracurriculars available including band, a learning kitchen, music and art. It also has a unique feature among schools in the city—a garden. Occupying one acre of land on its 11-acre campus, this project from the Edible Schoolyard Program New Orleans teaches children important lessons in science and healthy eating. The program was developed in 2006 along with Firstline Schools for each of their five campuses to change the way its students eat, learn and live within the Crescent City. The garden provides students with the opportunity to get hands-on with their food as they help water, weed, harvest, and enjoy the literal fruits and vegetables of their labor.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
