Located at 5500 Paris Ave. in New Orleans’ Gentilly neighborhood, Holy Cross School is a private Catholic school that serves boys from pre-kindergarten through graduation. The campus is one of two operated by the school, with the other being found on Elysian Fields Avenue. That elementary facility was added to Holy Cross School in 2015, while the middle and high school campus currently occupied on Paris Avenue was moved into in 2010. The roots of the school, however, go much deeper than that. It was founded in 1849 by the Congregation of the Holy Cross and has been part of the New Orleans community for well over 170 years.
Holy Cross School enrolls over 1,100 students and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 15–to-1, which helps keep class sizes small so everyone can receive one-on-one time with the teacher. This strategy seems to work as 82% of graduates continue on to a four-year university. The school encourages students to have experiences outside academics, so it offers a full fine arts curriculum including chorus, drama and band. The athletic program is made up of over a dozen competitive teams such as swimming, golf, bowling and track and field.

Started Holy Cross in 5th Grade--only knew one boy in my class. By the end of the first week of school I felt I was with family. Brotherhood between the students is second to none. I played sports from 5th Grade to Graduation. I earned the respect of my teammates and was named one of the Captain's of the football team. Best experience was making a run in the football playoffs my senior year.

I've been there since 8th grade and don't regret my decision to attend Holy Cross at all. So many memories and achievements have been made.

My experience at Holy Cross High School has been great overall. There are a lot of programs at our disposal to help prepare us for college. My worst experience was when I was told to cut my hair. My hair does not determine how successful I'm going to be as long as I'm cleaned and groomed. There are many professional business men with long hair. Two things I would like to see changed is the length of your hair not being a requirement for school and I think the college prep programs that they provide in our junior/senior year should be given to us early in our 8th grade year.

I've had a few meetings and also sent numerous emails to the heads of the school. There was an incidence where my son could not eat lunch because he did not have his ID and there are race issues with miniorities that the school is not willing to address. This was a serious problem for me last year,...
