Serving grades 6 through 8, KIPP Central City Academy is part of the KIPP New Orleans Schools charter network. This organization builds positive learning environments across all their campuses to give every student the most opportunities possible for academic and personal growth. Central City Academy expands on this by helping students cultivate a sense of self, hoping to help each one develop a strong character and a love of learning, as well as creativity and critical thinking skills.
Founded in 2007, the academy has quickly become a recognizable part of Central City. They provide daily transportation to and from campus, and the facility is ADA-compliant. Located at 2514 Third St., the school considers it their mission to promote excellence both in academics and wider interests. They offer various club sports, including flag football, cheerleading, basketball, baseball, and track and field. There’s marching band, drama, dance, and a makerspace as well.
KIPP schools begin college and career preparation in middle school, so that their work in cultivating self-confidence and strong character has time to become part of each student’s everyday life. At Central City Academy, learning isn’t just confined to textbooks; it’s incorporated into everything the students experience, and is used to make their lives and communities better.
