The NET Charter High School: Central City is part of the Educators for Quality Alternatives school network. While many alternative schools struggle or get shut down, The NET has been able to expand throughout New Orleans. Part of their successful model includes small class sizes, internships with local companies, and independent learning projects. Established in 2011, The NET: Central City enrolls 135 students, and is located at 1614 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Educating youths from grades 9 through 12, the school has a student-to-teacher ratio of 13-1, ensuring each pupil gets attention from their educators. There is also a dual enrollment program which allows students in grade 8 to attend. The NET: Central City is devoted to helping struggling students develop their talents by instilling them with the confidence and skills to pursue any career or educational course they are interested in. Using proven techniques from alternative programs around the nation, the institution emphasizes restorative practices instead of punishment, and ensures kids have a supportive community by promoting relationships with caring adults. The school emphasizes generosity, independence, belonging, and mastery, and each value plays an integral part in their approach to education.
