Bard High School Early College is a tuition-free, multi-campus network established by Bard College for public school students seeking an accelerated path to earning their high school diploma. The program’s Manhattan campus on the Lower East Side was founded in 2001 as the pilot school for what is now a flourishing collection of high schools across the city and up and down the East Coast. Located on East Houston Street in the former Public School 97 building, Bard's Manhattan campus boasts a supercharged, college-preparatory school where students benefit from a well-rounded, liberal education that extends beyond a core curriculum with seminar-style classes and college-level electives in math, science, the humanities, art and world languages. Extracurriculars include a school literary magazine, film club, speech and debate, badminton, ultimate frisbee and more. In keeping with Bard College’s motto, “A Place to Think,” the school offers workshops every year through its Center for Learning and Writing, where students have access to tutoring, study groups and a database of resources provided by the city’s libraries. Bard Early College High School's Manhattan campus is also within easy reach of the sports facilities at East River Park, Baruch Playground and the Hamilton Fish Recreation Center.

Academic wise the school is really good the only thing is it's very fast paced so it's easy to fall behind so you have to make sure you are always staying on top of your things and staying focused and even if you do happen to fall behind you can always go to your teachers to make things up. As for everything else its not paid much attention to. Sports are okay, not a lot of funding goes towards anything else but academics.

I feel like the liberal arts departments in Bard is what really carries the reputation of the school. The professors in literature will prepare you for such a comprehensive extent of college readiness you will look back and be amazed with yourself.

I really love this school. Although it feels a bit rough at times, I really enjoy the freedom that the school gives in terms of classes. Overall good school, albeit a bit old.

BHSEC is a fantastic educational environment and my son has thrived. The curriculum is thoughtful and challenging; teachers are truly inspiring; kids are diverse and talented. I want to take issue with the parent who says that kids who want to get A s must stay up all night once or twice every week....

Bard is a great educational opportunity within the public school system, with a heavy asterisk. The teachers are excellent, and committed. The administration fosters a sophisticated environment. The kids amazing. Here's the rub. There's something they call "Bard Hard". The school has a culture of ex...
