NYC Museum School opened in 1994 as a fully accredited school and was co-founded by Sonnet Takahisa and Ron Chaluisan. For a modern, interactive and college-leveled education, parents have seen tremendous success from their enrolled students at New York City Museum School, a public school in Chelsea. The curriculum engages weekly visits to museums all over New York City, where a teacher conducts class alongside museum staff. These on-site lessons are supplementary to the standard courses held inside. The school ensures that it meets the Common Core Learning Standards and the New York State and New York City Learning Standards. NYC Museum School has around 450 students in grades nine through 12. NYC Museum School is partnered with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of the City of New York, the Japan Society and the Rubin Museum of Art. In addition to museums, students can take Spanish, French, Japanese, physical education and art classes. If they are interested in athletics, the school offers extracurriculars such as basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis and more. After-school clubs are abundant at NYC Museum School. Student government, photography club, chess club, Hudson Sail and more are available to students. NYC Museum School creates a unique high school experience by providing students with a well-rounded and enjoyable education.

The community as a whole is alright. The area that it is located in is very expensive so getting outdoor lunch sucks sometimes as food is expensive. Overall, the environment was pretty nice and most of the teachers that I had were great.

Best part - it is small, the teachers are amazing, it is in NYC. Worst part - the building is shared with other schools, lunch is too early and some of the teachers are too casual.

During my time at museum school, I went through several weekly module courses and AP classes that indeed helped get credit for college but these were usually scarce. there were a maximum of 4 module courses to pick which ended up in rotation and about 3 AP class choices. Museum school sports facilities were poor and shared with Lab school upstairs. The overall safety on the schools streets was questionable with at least 2 hit and runs each year. Club activities, however, were easy to join and create.

Disgusting. The administration cares only for themselves and how they look to the parents. Teachers, including subs, are treated poorly by the administration and the kids alike. The union rep is also untrustworthy. I would look elsewhere.

The staff are exhausting and management has no clue what they're doing.

I have one child who graduated and another family member in attendance at this high school. The administrators and staff are very committed to setting these kids up for successful college careers. Well over 90% of the kids at this school take at least one AP or advanced placement class. It is a safe...

Dedicated teachers and administration. Solid, traditional academics offered with unique module program that makes the most of living and learning in NYC. Students get a lot of support and help throughout the years and with college prep.
