Located at 40 Irving Place, the High School for Language and Diplomacy is a college preparatory school that fosters a community of honesty and respect, and develops the academic skills of every student through engaging instruction and programs geared toward social and emotional health. The High School for Language and Diplomacy was opened in 2009 as a partnership between the New York City Department of Education and the Asia Society, a non-profit organization that sponsors a network of high schools to foster international relations between the United States and Asia. The school’s concentration on language and diplomacy is designed to give students the chance to study four years of Mandarin, French, Arabic and German. They may also take part in extracurricular activities such as Model UN, debate, book club and the school’s literary journal. Through a challenging academic program that provides opportunities for public service and a global education, students learn the craft of international diplomacy while developing their technology and interpersonal communication skills. At this Gramercy Park public school, graduates become service-oriented individuals and flexible thinkers through collaboration in and out of the classroom.

Well LAD is a great high school. Truly happy about my four year journey. I was able to meet people of all kinds and definitely make friendships with both classmates and teachers that I'm sure I will still be in contact for many years to go on. Was able to talk freely about subjects like Politics and Economics and heard so many things that sometimes change my perception of reality.

The school looks fine for people who just came to the US. Teachers are very friendly and motivate their students. Some changes could be to introduce classes such as AP and fix school's supplies such as laptops, boards, and the wifi connection.

This is a small safe school that works to provide students with solid academic base to help them become college and career ready. It is shared campus so the issues are largely about shared gyms and cafeteria. The teachers are caring and willing to help and guidance counsellors are very kind.
