University Neighborhood High School, operated in partnership with New York University, is located in an elegant, Beaux-Arts building on the Lower East Side. Starting in the early 1900s and spanning several decades, the historic school building welcomed students from the neighborhood’s burgeoning immigrant community, who were taught by the likes of Pulitzer Prize-winning author and educator, Frank McCourt, who taught in the building and immortalized it in his 2005 memoir, “Teacher Man.” University Neighborhood High School opened in 1999, and today it is a top-ranked high school that graduates nearly all of its students, many of them with a full term of college credits already under their belt thanks to the school’s robust early-college program. Course offerings include Common Core subjects, Advanced Placement classes and other college-preparatory courses through the College Now program, plus classes in business and computer science through the school’s Career and Technical Education program. For those interested in the arts, there are co-curricular courses and clubs in dance, art, theater and music, and the school partners with the nearby Abrons Arts Center and Playhouse for internships and performances. The school also offers varsity sports through the city’s Public Schools Athletic League, such as basketball, handball, softball, bowling and volleyball, along with club sports for soccer and track.

All the staff members and teachers are very friendly, the principle is a responsible person and knows what's he's doing. Their food is excellent and they have a lot of activities and trips if you stayed there for your senior year, but one thing they could've done better is having more field trips or trips for freshman, sophomore, junior year.

This school is very social-friendly. There were a lot of good clubs I and participated in many of them such as chess, badminton, Chinese, and science. After school and Saturdays, I tutored the underclassman that was having trouble with math and science. I graduated top 10 in my school and got into one of my dream schools. One thing I would like to change in this school is adding more AP classes.

This school only has two bathrooms, both of which don't have doors. That's not even the biggest issue though. My classes are taught super one sided. For example we did a unit on reparations in my history class and the teacher showed us documents from five different left leaning sources which explain...
