With over 400 kindergarten through sixth-grade students, Newport Elementary School serves the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. Newport Elementary, also known as Newport El, strives to be “the Best on the Beach” and has a student-centered focus to help kids reach their full potential. This strategy pays off, as most students meet or exceed the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress standards.
Part of this success can be attributed to the fact that students who need extra time or attention are put in smaller groups where they can receive more personalized instruction. Similarly, students who excel are placed in smaller groups to nurture and challenge their exceptional abilities. In addition to its academic curriculum, Newport Elementary emphasizes social and emotional learning. The school organizes special programs and activities to build healthy character traits like gratitude. Positive behaviors are noticed and reinforced as much as possible.
Newport Elementary encourages academic success and positive social behaviors with special awards, recognitions and events, such as its Shout Out Award Luncheon and Great News Calls to parents. After-school programs include Active Kids and After Class Enrichment for students at this elementary. Along with every other school, students can also enjoy events such as a spring dance, talent shows, field days, book fairs, art competitions, a Boo Bash Festival and more.
The school district works tirelessly to ensure students are well-equipped to learn using current textbooks and technology, which the Newport El Foundation funds.
