Benson West Elementary is located at 6652 Maple Street in the Benson neighborhood of Omaha, Nebraska. Since its founding in 1988, Benson West has grown from a two-room schoolhouse to a multiroom building with over 450 students in pre kindergarten through fifth grade. The current student-teacher ratio is fifteen to one, and thirteen different languages are represented through the multicultural student body at Benson West Elementary. There is a large playground area at the school with ample room to run around and play games, as well as a play structure, swings and a climbing wall. In 1990, artist Tom Schlosser helped Benson high school students create a six panel frieze for the elementary building that shows concern for topics that need to be communicated to future generations. Each panel represents one of the following: Unspoiled Places, Native Americans, Vanishing Prairies, The Iron Horse, Hazardous Waste and New Awareness. A one-to-one technology program is in place at Benson West which provides an ipad or Chromebook for every student to encourage growth in learning new technology. Test scores at Benson West are average to slightly below average, but the school also partners with Collective For Youth, an organization that oversees out-of-school activities and provides after-school programming for those who can benefit from more time in the classroom. Since its start, Benson West Elementary has been building a legacy based on tradition in the Omaha area.

Both our son and daughter attended BWE. And all I can say Is I love this school. The office staff are always friendly, the teachers love their jobs, and they have lots of help staff. Our kids have been going to BWE for 5 years and I couldn't be happier at their success! Thank you BWE!
