The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I went to Owen County High School for 3 of the 4 years. It is a small town high school so everyone knew everyone. I always had a great experience with all of my teachers, especially the art teachers. I was able to take high school courses in middle school so I received credits prior to going. This helped me with my senior year because I was able to take extra electives that helped me get into the college I wanted.

This school is not the worst school I could go to. Efforts are made to offer students plenty of clubs and extracurriculars to participate in, as well as classes that will prepare us for our future careers and college. However, these efforts fall flat sometimes, as they simply don't offer enough or what is offered is unsatisfactory. Overall, this school isn't bad but it leaves much to be desired.

The teachers there provide good advice, come from the surrounding major towns and makes them have interesting stories. They really care for their kids and will try to help them as much as possible to make sure they get the education they need.

I think Owen County High School does an excellent job for its students given it is a small, poor, rural school. The staff and faculty care a great deal for their students and the community and this pervades everything they do.

Overall, this is not a good school. There is little respect for teacher and property. Students are mostly allowed to do whatever they want, especially athletes. I'd say about 90% of the students in the school will not do anything with their lives and not even attend college. There needs to be seriou...
