Esperanza Elementary School is located on 35th Street West in the Rancho Vista neighborhood in the city of Palmdale. This public school offers classes for universal pre-K and kindergarten through 6th grade with approximately 1050 students and maintains a student-to-teacher ratio of 27-to-1. Esperanza Kinder Camp is the school’s curriculum for its’ youngest students. With an emphasis on STEAM classes, they have two universal pre-k classes, three kindergarten classes, and one class for transitioning to first grade. This WASC-accredited school has specialized programs for English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented Education and a Special Education classes with Resource Specialist Programs, Special Day Class, and Speech classes. Other programs include musical instrument classes and fee-based programs in athletics, arts and science. The school offers on-site after school child care through the Boys and Girls Club of Antelope Valley and a nonprofit tutoring service called Innovation Education. Another fun after school option is Rancho Vista Park, an inclusive playground directly next door to the campus that has slides embedded into the hillside, a kinetic wind sculpture, a walking path and meditation garden. As part of the Westside Union School District, the school implements the Universal Meals Program, allowing students to receive one free nutritious breakfast and lunch daily. Students proudly call themselves the Esperanza Golden Eagles, and with the help of a dedicated PTA, they get many extracurricular activities like field trips, family nights, reading and fitness programs and an annual Fall Festival.

I was very disappointed in our experience. I made the decision to homeschool after only one year at this overcrowded mess of a school. The K teacher wanted to retain our child because our child couldn’t read at all by the end of the 2016-2017 school year. My kiddo is testing at or above grade level...
