Don Benito Fundamental is a public elementary school in Upper Hastings. The Pasadena Unified School District utilizes a school choice program where residences are zoned to neighborhood schools. Along with Eugene Field Elementary, Don Benito Fundamental is a neighborhood school for Hastings Ranch residents. They receive priority over students living outside the neighborhood, who must otherwise wait for open enrollment in the winter.
Don Benito Fundamental is affiliated with the Pasadena LEARNs Program, the YMCA and Pasadena Parks and Recreation to offer before- and after-school programs that meet the needs of parents. Choral and instrumental music programs are offered to Don Benito students in Grades 3-5, with biweekly orchestra and brass band practices. Weekly art classes are offered to Grades 1-5 through a private program. The Don Benito PTA has a highly-engaged core membership that encourages community members and students to participate.

Don Benito is one of the most socioeconomically and racially diverse schools in the district. That was really important to our family when selecting a school in the open enrollment process. Don Benito has the most engaged PTA and the principal and teachers have created an incredibly supportive school community for students. There's art, music, library, and PE for all students.

Don Benito is by far the best elementary in pusd. My child has been there since kindergarten and EVERY teacher we have had has been amazing. Her math skills have improved as well as her reading. The teachers are committed to reaching each child and ensuring growth as a class. Assessments are done throughout the year to gage where the students are at. Not only that but they are truly a community that comes together and provide a number of fun events for the kids both fun and educational. We are not just a school but a tight knit community that support one another.
