Opened in 2013 as a charter school just east of South Mountain, BASIS Ahwatukee serves more than 700 students in fourth through twelfth grades in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix. The faculty here set the bar pretty high with an open culture that fosters well-rounded excellence.
Following a rigorous curriculum, BASIS Ahwatukee often ranks in the top 10 of all high schools in Arizona and in the top 100 of all high schools in the United States with absolutely stellar test scores in math and reading, in addition to a 100% graduation rate. If those stats aren’t enough, 100% of students pass at least one Advanced Placement exam.
Outside of the classroom, students can also thrive creatively in a wide range of extracurriculars including anime, coding, improv and drama, orchestra, and robotics, among others. Additionally, the more athletic set can find team spirit and compete in basketball, fencing, soccer, and volleyball.
As an enriching experience for seniors, BASIS hosts senior projects that empower students to engage in off-campus research projects or internships where they can work with a mentor in their desired field and present their learnings like a scholar. One of the most exciting aspects of these senior projects is that they can take place anywhere in the world, placing no limits on what can be unlocked by the creativity of each student.

What I loved most about BASIS Ahwatukee has nothing to do with the branch's accredited academic rigor but rather, the community the students built for themselves. From its very first established year in 2013, I've witnessed the Ahwatukee branch develop its sense of school pride through the support of one another and the faculty/staff that fight for the students in their care.

BASIS Ahwatukee was a good school for a time but it did not do well to adjust to the pandemic and online learning. Additionally, it was very test-oriented rather than project-oriented, and in college classes (which I am now taking) and in life and the workforce, most things are project-based not test-based or memorization heavy.

It was a great school for students who are academically focused and aspire to get into the STEM sector. It prepared me for college and makes college so much easier. The rigorous coursework facilitates my college experience and allows me to effectively maintain a high academic standing.
