Founded by Dr. Nancy Bennett and her husband Lt. Col. Bennett, the mission at Bennett Academy is to empower students so they can succeed in preparation for college after high school. The free public charter school serves more than 100 students in third through eighth grade at the West Bethany Road location and kindergarten through second grade at the West Dunlap Road location.
Here, core subject classes utilize Core Knowledge language and history programs, Spalding Method reading and writing, MyView Literacy, Saxon Math, Mystery Science, McGraw-Hill Science, Lab-Aids, and a Harmony social and emotional learning program. The institution has made significant strides in its academics, as it often ranks in the top 20% of middle schools in Arizona with test scores in reading and math above the state average.
All students at Bennett have access to either iPads or Chromebooks to enhance instruction, while art, music, and an award-winning theater program broaden children’s social understanding and creative development. Students in fifth through eighth grade can develop leadership skills and compete in soccer, flag football, volleyball, and basketball by joining the school’s high-ranking teams.
Among other programs, Bennett Academy offers an English Language Learner program, special education services, and free bus transportation to students who live within a designated area.
