As a tuition-free charter school, Sun Valley Academy serves children in kindergarten through eighth grade in the South Mountain neighborhood of South Phoenix.
Here, the faculty foster lifelong learning through hands-on experiences that engage students and all their senses. Additionally, the academy adopts a Leader in Me program that strives to instill leadership qualities and life-readiness skills to help students thrive in mind, body, and spirit.
In the classroom, the curriculum uses Spalding Method language arts, Saxon Math, Harcourt materials in science and social studies, and Beyond Textbooks, which are used by over 12,000 teachers across the country. Students can further develop creatively and socially in physical education, fine arts and music, technology, library, and character education.
Although test scores in reading and math at Sun Valley usually hover near or at the state average, the school offers Voyager intervention programs in language arts and math for students who need additional instruction to stay on track.
Outside of the classroom, students also can build team spirit and elevate their fitness in a number of sports including flag football, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, coed soccer, girls’ volleyball, cheerleading and, yes, the mental sport of chess.
Sun Valley also offers before- and after-school care programs where students can participate in supervised activities and tutoring in order to keep them safe and engaged every day.

Sun Valley has been a wonderful change for our family. Our children feel supported by staff and teachers and because of this they have flourished this past school year and surpassed all of our expectations. The administration is responsive and very engaged. We love Sun Valley!
