Orchard House School (Orchard House) is a private all-girls middle school in the Fan District. Its goal is to educate and inspire young women in fifth through eighth grades.
Orchard House’s charming campus is located on North Allen Avenue in the southern end of the neighborhood, and welcomes young women from dozens of zip codes across the region.
Leadership is at the heart of the Orchard House curriculum. Programs are designed to provide students with vital skills and opportunities to learn and practice leadership in the school and communities. Faculty and staff are dedicated to teaching all students academics, social responsibility, emotional integrity and physical well-being.
Participation in sports is also encouraged by administrators, and girls can opt to compete in field hockey, basketball and soccer. Hands-on learning is paramount here, and you’ll find that students often leave school to participate in cultural events and athletics throughout the Fan. Students of Orchard House can walk or bike to nearby museums, historical landmarks, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

What I particularly admire about the school is the quality of the teachers. They are kind and communicative, find creative ways for students to learn, and are true role models. My daughter truly enjoys her time at school.

Both of our daughters have thrived at Orchard House School. They have received an excellent education while learning to find their own voice. Watching them grow into confident young women who know themselves and feel comfortable with who they are is a beautiful thing to watch. As our older daughter has transitioned into high school we have been again impressed with the level of preparedness she has and the feedback we have gotten from her teachers shows that they are impressed with how well Orchard House prepares girls for life beyond middle school.
