The Steward School is a private school located in Richmond that educates students from preschool through 12th grade. In 1972, educator Helen Dixon founded the school in a church basement as a non-sectarian, coeducational alternative to other private schools in the area. Since then, the school has moved to a beautiful 37-acre campus with 700 students in attendance. The school strives to teach the importance of personal responsibility and accomplishment as important tools for success. It uses small class sizes to focus on each student’s talents and abilities, which allows the teachers to gauge the level of expectation and support each child needs while helping them discover their passions. Extracurricular activities are seen as an essential part of student growth. Steward is passionate about athletics, with a variety of sports offered each season, ranging from lacrosse and soccer to golf and diving. Its facilities include tennis courts, athletic fields and an athletic center with gymnasiums, indoor courts and a weight training room. If your child loves science or the arts, Steward offers many ways for them to explore their passions. The Bryan Innovation Lab was built to give students experiential learning and is where the robotics team and Growing Leaders club meet to enhance their critical thinking skills. Other students come to the Cramer Center, where they learn to express themselves through music, dance, acting or visual mediums.

Current Senior here, I would not recommend this school if you are minority or African American. There are Bias opinions from teachers and staff and a sense of racism. The academics are good, the food is OK, and the staff is mid. But for black students I would recommened Trinity or public school before you pay 30k. Most to all black students here feel the same. The black experience here I would rate a 3/10. It is awful and many of black students have transfered becuase of this reason.

We love this school. Campus, teachers, curriculum. My daughters love going everyday and if I say they can stay for aftercare, they go over the moon with excitement. Safe to say you can't go wrong here. We have both of our kids enrolled and couldn't be more pleased with the love and care and attention they get from the amazing staff.

We moved to Richmond from the west coast and admittedly we worried about a culture shift for our middle schooler. Right away the faculty was so welcoming and caring. They wanted to ensure a positive transition. Our child is thrilled with the level of care received in their academic development. Our child has learning differences and the school has been fantastic at helping develop skills for their future. We are very happy.

We have 2 children in the Steward School and this will be our 7th year. The experience has been wonderful for us. We moved to Virginia from out of state and the Steward School was incredibly welcoming. We were matched with a host family to ease our transition. The teachers and staff care immensely f...

A great experience! My child came to Steward in 9th grade and it has been rewarding watching the growth, leadership, and ambition during the 4 years there. I truly feel my child has been prepared for the next chapter. The honors and AP courses, as well as the seminar classes offered, provide next-le...

We have moved several times over the last five years, and our three kids have attended many different schools. Of all these schools, The Steward School is, by far, the best school we have experienced. We understood Steward to have top-flight academics, facilities, and staff, and this is certainly th...
