Named after the noteworthy Varina citizen and educator Henry D. Ward, Ward Elementary School is a part of the Henrico County Public Schools District. Henry D. Ward was a memorable school principal at Baker Elementary for 24 years. Ward Elementary got more than just its name from the former school principal; the school’s mascot is the colt, chosen because of Mr. Ward’s love of horses. Today, this school serves students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. To maintain academic progress, Ward believes in keeping the learner at the center of the work. Thus, Ward utilizes tiered instruction where teachers cater lessons and work to what will best fit each student – supplying opportunities for everyone to succeed and adding additional support when needed. There are two active clubs at this school. One is the Safety Patrol, sponsored by a physical education teacher at the school, and there is also the Student Council Association.

This school is a major disappointment. The admins and other staff will wait until literally the last minute to contact the parent about an issue involving your child that happened hours earlier versus right after the incident has occurred. This school also has quite a few teachers who are not board...
