O'Connell was a great experience for me as it offers pathways that help you think about your future. I was past of the culinary pathway and enjoyed cooking for event at the school and friends. The community is close since it's a small school and teachers are kind.

the strongest thing about OC is definitely the teachers. the curriculum itself is lackluster to say the least, and the students are so apathetic towards their education that it can be unmotivated to those who actually care. the upperclassmen are divided up into pathways that sound enticing at first, but end up messing up the students schedule in the end. due to the structure of my pathway, i was forced to take an extra year of english despite already completing the necessary credit requirements the previous year, and will be required to take another one this year as well. all extra classes are counted as extracurricular classes on the transcript, which is nice but still incredibly limiting. we also lack world languages other than spanish, and only have around 3-4 ap classes offered each year. the teachers are amazing, but incredibly overworked and oftentimes under supported by the administration team.

It's a small school but holds a lot of minorities and helps teach about those minorities history. I've never seen or experienced any bullying at John O Connell. Not the best academics, I didn't get a lot of homework here. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the people I've met at this school, including both the teachers and students.

My younger child transferred into O'Connell this year. Our experience to date has been dismaying. The level of chaos is incredible - I've spent entire days just trying to figure out whom I should contact with specific questions; when I finally find the right person their responsiveness runs at about...

John O'Connell is in the Hart of the Mission district. The Staff is amazing and dedicated to the students. This school is a small community within itself and has family enviornment. Students have many supports and if taken advantage of they can go far. Out of class 150 in 2009, there 70 students app...
