Situated near Shiloh Ranch Regional Park, San Miguel Elementary is a TK-6 charter school in Santa Rosa. Roughly one-third of the student body comes from outside the Mark West Union School District, but once settled in, the school has a good retention rate. San Miguel’s mission is to bring students up to or beyond state standards in their English language and math skills. Those goals are supplemented with arts, physical education, and field trips and bingo nights that allow families to gather outside the context of the classroom. There’s one-on-one and small group instruction available so, students who are falling behind can get the support they need while those surging ahead can find more challenging work to tackle. On Friday mornings, a school-wide assembly honors students’ achievements in the company of their peers, school staff, and administrators. The school is committed to ensuring all students are treated with respect and promise to work collectively to solve any problems the students might be having. This may be why parents and kids alike say they very quickly felt at home at San Miguel.

San Miguel has amazing teachers and an amazing Principal who personally knows every student’s name. It is a loving and supportive school with smaller class sizes than other schools in the area. My husband and I are very impressed with the level of education our child is receiving there.

25-34 students packed into small classrooms like cattle; little or no classroom management; minimal learning; this website has a strange system for developing ratings (many parents would call it a 2). Not good.

Have waited through a miserable semester with our daughter stuck in a terrible first gr. class. Teacher will not expend energy to move around the class providing help...not an option. She stays at her projector and ignores kids' needs for help. Also, though parents donate all of the class's supplies...

One of the first grade teachers is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Her sweet, high-pitched voice masks her negative actions toward students. She ignores student needs such as bathroom requests, raised hands for help, and any individual needs which may interfere w/ her "teaching to the standardized tests...
