Opened in 1959, Pima Elementary School (Pima) recently underwent millions of dollars in renovations to bring the campus into the 21st century, both inside and out. When you visit its 16,000-square-foot addition including 13 new classrooms, freshly landscaped grounds, and dozens of newly planted trees, you might not think this public school’s been around since the mid-century housing boom that shaped much of South Scottsdale. As part of the Coronado Learning Community in the Scottsdale Unified School District, Pima now serves students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades with an impressive student-teacher ratio of 13:1, which is much better than the state average. While maintaining a focus on rigorous academics, Pima students are encouraged to feel proud, inspired, and motivated to achieve. In fact, Pima Elementary earns test scores in reading and math significantly above the state average, and often ranks in the top 20% of elementary schools in Arizona. Plus, students can tap into a number of resources to help them grow and explore interests, whether accelerating creativity in the gifted program, getting a head start on computer science in coding labs, or just making the most of PBS KIDS. Extracurriculars include a wide range of after-school Enrichment Zone classes, including Athletes in Training, robotics, Mad Science, art, chess, and dance, among many others. At Pima, you’ll find an abundance of opportunities to grow and excel.

My experience with this school was overall mixed but pretty unpleasant. Personally, fifth grade was the worst year for me because of the teachers and the fact that I had accelerated math didn’t help. Accelerated math meant that I had a mean and disrespectful teacher for a good 2 hours every day and...

This was a great move for our daughter! The specialized program, teacher attentiveness and experience, leadership of the campus, and supplemental after school programs (not just "daycare") create a really productive, dynamic educational environment!

Love the school and administration. My children have received a quality education and the teachers have been a pleasure to work with. No real negative issues to report thus far.
