Sierra Canyon School is a private, non-sectarian, coeducational school located at 11052 Independence Avenue in the city of Chatsworth. The school saw humble beginnings as a summer camp in 1972, when visionaries who ran the camp believed the philosophy and community spirit of the camp would make for a stellar center of learning. In 1978, Sierra Canyon School was officially born.
Home of the Trailblazers, the school is divided into two campus locations—lower and upper. The lower campus serves elementary students while the upper campus serves middle and high school students. The 17-acre lower campus enrolls approximately 500 students and serves young learners in pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. Sierra Canyon’s lower campus curriculum is divided into three separate learning categories: Primary, which consists of pre-kindergarten to second grade; intermediate, made up of third though fifth grades; and transitional elementary for those in sixth grade.
Core classes include language arts, math, science, social studies and reading with additional core subjects varying according to grade level. Average classroom size is 19 students and the student-to-teacher ratio is 5-to-1, when it comes to reading and math. The school features several enrichment classes including art, Spanish club, Suzuki strings, cello, all about Japan class, yoga, cheer, culinary classes and more. Extracurricular activities are also available at Sierra Canyon School, with swimming lessons and a spy kids club being just a few of its many offerings.

I am both a parent and an alum. Sierra Canyon is academically rigorous and prepares the student for collegiate education, but also does so much more; SC provides a culture that empowers the student to be courageous, have good character, and holistically prepared for society. The faculty and staff are sensitive to the needs of each student. As a parent I am thankful--as an alum, I am proud.

It's been amazing seeing our child's confidence grow since she started at SC. It's a testament to the school and teachers. Would love to see more variety and new options for enrichments.

I cannot imagine sending my child anywhere else. Everything at Sierra Canyon is exceptional - the educators, the curriculum, the facilities, the extracurricular options. My child is thriving and even as a 1st grader already has access to programs like coding, strings ensemble, sports, etc.

Going to this school was the worst experience of our life. It’s a rich kid school. The teachers had no interest in dealing with disagreements among the kids. The school work is intense.
