Soaring Heights Charter School is located in the Greenville section of Jersey City and serves about 300 students from kindergarten to eighth grade. As a charter school, students must participate in an enrollment lottery to attend. Celebrating its 20th year in 2022, Soaring Heights has also recently been rated the 3rd best charter school in Hudson County by Niche.com.
The school boasts very high test scores and scored above the state average for math and English language arts. According to the school’s mission statement, Soaring Heights’ students are encouraged to become lifelong learners and communicate effectively, solve problems, act responsibly, value accomplishments and aim to achieve at the highest level academically.
In addition to the academics, enrichment programs in Chinese, STEAM, tutoring, guitar and even summer programs are part of the offerings through Soaring Heights. The school has a very high teacher retention rate, including 98% in the 2015-16 school year, as well as almost 90% of the teaching staff having at least 3 years’ experience at the school. Additionally, the school boasts a student-to-teacher ratio of 16-to-1. Students at Soaring Heights participate in Advanced Placement classes like Algebra I at higher rates than the state average.
