The Arthur T. Talmadge School in Springfield opened in 1954 and is a public elementary school serving children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Talmadge School has a student-to-teacher ratio of 10-to-1 with just over 200 students enrolled.
Students at Arthur T. Talmadge take classes in academic subjects including math, English Language Arts, science, physical education, health and art. According to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the school made moderate progress toward its learning targets in 2021.
The school grounds consist of a basketball court and blacktop space, as well as large grassy areas on which students can enjoy group games. Talmadge School also has a playground with seating, and outdoor garden beds.
In addition to traditional academics, Arthur T. Talmadge students engage in extracurricular activities such as Girls on the Run, similar to other Springfield schools. Guest speakers, themed days and other activities are also mainstays at the school.

Excellent school. Devoted teaching staff and overall great learning community. I am so happy that my daughter is currently a 5th grader at this school and will conclude her elementary education here at Talmadge.

I am new to the area. I have lived here in Springfield for only a year and a half. I have a daughter who is 2 yr 3 mos and I am now trying to find out what is the best school to start here in preschool. Would you recommend Talmadge or another?

I have been more than disappointed with the school and the district. The teachers and staff are not caring and treat both the parents and the children as a bother. Complete lack of communication. Schools are not up to date and class is chaotic for children. I hope we are able to move our son to anot...
