Beloved by its community, Thomas M. Balliet School is a trusted elementary school with prekindergarten programs and kindergarten through fifth grade classes. Tutoring programs are offered before and after school and on Saturdays. Springfield’s Community Music School, a nonprofit arts school with programs throughout the city, also hosts a drumming course at Balliet, and students can participate in chorus and art clubs. The local YMCA also hosts an after-school program, so working parents and guardians have plenty of options to keep their children safe and entertained with enrichment programs. Balliet offers special workshops for parents in both English and Spanish to help caregivers navigate complex education laws and procedures. This is especially helpful for those with children that have special education needs. Teachers, students and the community all take pride in Balliet Elementary. Teachers work hard to create inclusive, stimulating classrooms that address the needs of their students, whether it’s improving literacy skills with technology or raising funds for something specific, like wobble cushions to help energetic children stay focused and on task.
