Hunt Valley Hawks, as the 700 students enrolled at Hunt Valley Elementary School are known, are expected to exhibit the following behaviors and character traits: Helpfulness, Accountability, Wise Choices, Kindness, and Safety — which is easy to remember, thanks to the HAWKS acronym. Offering K-6 instruction since 1968, this public elementary school has been recognized by the Virginia Board of Education with numerous honors, including the Governor's Award for Educational Excellence, the Distinguished Achievement Award, as well as the Purple Star Award. According to the school’s mission statement, Hunt valley students will “explore their talents, strengths, and passions to achieve their highest academic potential to become productive, empathetic, responsible, well-rounded members of the community.” Faculty and staff are committed to empowering students to be ready for the 21st century. As part of this commitment, technology and digital citizenship skills are emphasized at each grade level. When they aren’t hitting the books, Hunt Valley Hawks pursue extracurriculars such as instrumental music, broadcasting club, safety patrol, student council, and STEAM lab. The annual Winter Festival, Spring Family Night, and other PTA-sponsored events bring together students, parents, faculty, and community members to celebrate and nurture the school-wide Hunt Valley team. Working together, this Hawks community proudly helps advance the school’s vision to explore, achieve, and empower.

The school leaves students unprepared for MS via the no homework policy for 5th & 6th grades. Plus, there are no accountable standards for using proper grammer or writing. My 6th grader's writing in the formation of words, the presentation of the written material & spelling resemble a 3rd grade level. Plus, no typing skills or cursive. How can they be good at anything when not one is fully enforced or taught when so much work is done on laptops?
