Tucked within the tree-lined streets of the Sam Hughes neighborhood, Sam Hughes Elementary is a public school serving more than 300 children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade as part of the Tucson Unified School District.
Here, the faculty are committed to “develop responsible, involved citizens who are motivated to think critically, to learn continuously, and are free to face the challenges of the future.”
And to foster creativity and well-rounded individuals, Sam Hughes Elementary School encourages students through weekly classes via Opening Minds Through the Arts, where they can develop speaking skills and confidence in the performing arts, from theater and dance to band and orchestra.
Within the core curriculum, students can excel through semester-long earning expeditions in order to provide deeper subject comprehension.
Sam Hughes Elementary School students earn reading and math test scores above the district and state averages. The school often ranks in the top 10% of all elementary schools in Arizona thanks to a more rigorous, balanced approach to education.
Aside from a before- and after-school care program, students also can shine in extracurriculars including basketball, choir, Girls Scouts and the Husky Running Club. The school hosts a calendar of events throughout the year, ranging from spellathons to spirit weeks.
