The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I generally enjoyed high school. I was a part of the cheerleading team for three years and loved it. The students are great and even though the football team isn't that good everyone still comes out and supports. We have a bunch of activities throughout the year and it is really just fun. My senior year I'm focusing on sports photography which I made into a club my junior year. I'm loving it so much and the school has helped me plan things out. Classes do challenge me and the teachers are good most of the time. I feel a hundred percent safe at school and I couldn't be happier I attended Western Albemarle High School.

I got an extremely good education and feel it prepared me well for college but the social scene was extremely hard. I would like to see more work from the administration to combat the bullying that seems to have always been a problem.

As someone who is NOT Christian and also does not have the same opinions as a lot of students at WAHS, it was very hard to fit in sometimes. The academics at this school when it comes to college readiness is amazing though. I just feel that if the school was more diverse and students were a little more open to others, the whole experience would be all the better.

As a grandparent and parent of two Western Albemarle alumni, I am still a big fan! Leadership starts at the top - the principal and athletic director/staff are fully present at all events. The extra-curricular events are well-supervised, planned, and attended. Students are engaged, with curious eye...
