The streets of Lansingburgh, a neighborhood in the City of Troy, are lined with traditional homes and long-standing businesses. The neighborhood was originally its own village before being annexed by the city in 1901. In the 1800s, Troy was a major industrial hub for iron, paper and linen manufacturing. It was also home to Samuel Wilson, whose meatpacking business supplied soldiers during the War of 1812 and is believed to have become the inspiration for the country’s national symbol, Uncle Sam. Troy saw a period of decline during the 1900s before seeing new life in the present day. “It was a very industrialized city from way back; that’s part of the Troy story,” says Joseph Cardinale, a NYS Licensed Real Estate Agent with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, who’s been selling homes in Troy for over nine years. “It sort of converged from an old, industrial town in decline, to a resurgence as a great city to live in.” The neighborhood offers a mix of single- and multi-family houses.
