Located in South Florida, West Palm Beach serves as the county seat of Palm Beach County. The city is one of three predominant cities in the southern region of Florida with a population of 104, 031. Established as a city before Miami, the municipality is the oldest in the metropolitan Area and is positioned about 68 miles above Miami. The city offers a diverse population ranging in age, ethnicity and race, and it offers a number of versatile neighborhoods and housing options.

The area of West Palm Beach was originally settled during the 1870s and 1880s, and it was officially established in 1894. The city experienced substantial growth in the 1920s, and between 1920 and 1927 the population quadrupled. The population once again boomed during the 1950s with the arrival of air conditioning. In recent decades, the city has gone through major redevelopment and revitalization along with substantial preservation, and there are a number of historical quarters. Clematis Street provides an exciting nightlife scene with a historical 1920s backdrop, and many old neighborhoods have been transformed into luxurious modern communities. There are many historic sites throughout the city that locals and tourists can admire. These sites include Bel Air Historic District, Central Park, El Cid, Flamingo Park, Grandview Heights, Mango Promenade, Northboro Park, Northwest, and Old Northwest Historic District, Northwood hills historic district, Prospect Park and West Northwood Historic District. Each location possesses a unique history with a variety of architectural styles.

Whether you enjoy art, music or theater, West Palm Beach offers a number of arts and culture activities. The cultural institutions throughout the city include the Norton Museum of Art, Raymond F. Kravis Center for Performing Arts, Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum, Palm Beach Convention center, Harriet Himmel Theater and the Carefree Theatre. The city is additionally home to a number of annual festivals and shows like Sunfest, the Palm Beach International Film Festival, the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction and the Palm Beach Opera. While the city is not home to any professional sports teams, it offers a number of other sports activities. It is the spring training home to the Marlins and Cardinals, and Palm Beach Atlantic University offers a number of competitive sports programs. It also hosts a range of professional championships and meets in golf, tennis, croquet and BMX racing. West Palm Beach is a vibrant city that offers a wide variety of exciting activities.
