Why Live in Old West Sacramento
Before West Sacramento formally became a city in the 1980s, the area was a collection of communities across the water from California’s capital. One of those places went by West Sacramento, which lives on in spirit through this neighborhood located off the Sacramento River and its Deep Water Ship Channel. The community enjoys proximity to downtown Sacramento and its historic waterfront’s dining and cultural attractions, but some of that scene has crossed the river over the years. Although mostly residential, Old West Sacramento puts many within short walking distance of parks and spots serving anything from authentic street-style tacos to a wide selection of craft beers.
“It’s a very established area. In terms of the city in general, it’s not Sacramento; It’s its own community, its own culture, but you’re a hop, skip and a jump from downtown Sacramento,” says Darius Graham, a Realtor with Goree & Thompson. Ranch-style, split-level and minimal Traditional homes comprise much of Old West Sacramento’s housing. Some lots make room for citrus trees and palms, while many live across the road from a few pocket parks. One of them, Fred and Leila Holmes Park, occupies a large roundabout
