Just south of the John Glenn Columbus International Airport, Whitehall is a suburban city within the inner ring of Interstate 270. What began as farmland in the early 20th century expanded after the construction of the first regional shopping center in the country, according to the city. "What sets Whitehall apart is the way we harmoniously live together. Neighbors actually know each other. We still sit out on our front porches together." "Whitehall is a place where people can live and work and raise their family," Bivens says. "We have a tagline that we live by: 'Opportunity is here.'"
Whitehall's median single-family home price is around $200,000, lower than the national median price. The recently renovated Whitehall Community Park is one of the city's central communal spaces, featuring a disc golf course, multi-use trails and six acres of flowers. Warmer weather brings locals to John Bishop Memorial Park for its splash pad, athletic courts and the John F. LaCorte Amphitheater — the site of the annual Summer Concert Series. The Whitehall Food Truck and Fun Fest has been an annual event since 2013, bringing dozens of food trucks and musicians to the city for one day in the summer. At the Summer Concert Series at the John F. LaCorte Amphitheater, people can bring blankets or lawn chairs and picnic while enjoying live music from local artists. From June to August, Market on the Green is an urban farmers market at The Kelley Green on Thursday afternoons with rotating special guests like the Columbus Zoo.

Easy access to downtown Columbus
Buses through the Central Ohio Transit Authority stop along Main Street, Broad Street and Hamilton Road. "We have at least seven to ten stops in our city connecting people to more than 100,000 jobs," Bivens says. "We are currently creating designated bike paths and walking paths." Interstate 270 is east of Whitehall, and downtown Columbus is about 7 miles west via U.S. Highway 40. The nearest medical facility is the Ohio State East Hospital, which has 190 beds, emergency services and surgical facilities.
Multicultural dining options
The area has various franchise and local restaurants, particularly along Ohio State Route 317 to the east. Dining options include Greek, Jamaican, Ethiopian and Indian cuisines. Grocery stores and big-box stores are available within the city boundaries.
The Sandwich Man, is a local staple that's family-owned and operated in Whitehall.

Athletics at Whitehall-Yearling High
Whitehall City School District has a C-plus from Niche and serves the area with five public schools. These schools include Whitehall-Yearling High School, which has an active athletics department and a C from Niche.

According to the FBI, Whitehall saw an increase in violent crime from 2022 to 2023. Property-related crime has been on the rise since 2020. From 2021 to 2024, the Whitehall Police Department implemented the Safer Whitehall Strategic Plan, an initiative to decrease crime in the community.
Whitehall has warm, humid summers and windy, snowy winters. The average annual snowfall is lower than the Ohio average.
Parts of Whitehall are located in a 100-year floodplain — areas that have a 1% chance of seeing floods every year. Homes in these areas require permits from the city before being built, and their owners are required to maintain flood insurance.
In 2020, the city announced plans to redevelop the intersection of Hamilton Road and Broad Street into a 50-acre multi-use area that will include green space surrounding new residential and commercial zones. The first phase of development is anticipated for 2025.
