Surrounded by the swath of concrete and highways of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex, Argyle exists as a quiet refuge, with a canopy of trees overhead and a slower pace of life below. The town of just under 6,000 maintains an intentional rural feel due to meticulous city planning. Houses and lot sizes run large here, and many homeowners share their property with livestock and horses. Commercial development is limited, but the existing establishments are popular spots to stop in and grab a bite to eat. Many who live here commute to nearby city centers and take advantage of Argyle's proximity to both Dallas and Fort Worth. And with award-winning private and public schools, many families are deciding to plant their future in Argyle. "You can't find a better place to raise a family," says Jessica Sommer, Argyle’s Director of Marketing and Communications. "People here raise their children with family values in line to produce children that give back to the community. It's Mayberry for real."

Large houses and expansive lots define the city's housing
Argyle offers an eclectic collection of housing in both rural and suburban settings. Many of the established builds sit on large lots that span many acres because city ordinance requires a 2.5-acre minimum for homesteads. These expansive builds often feature Colonial Revival and modern farmhouse-style architecture. New housing is becoming prevalent, and smaller custom homes can be found in planned developments like Country Lakes and Canyon Falls. Some homeowners choose to raise livestock and horses on their properties. The city's median price is around $560,000, though larger estates can run well into the multi-million dollar range. Numerous plots of land are also available for those looking to build their countryside escape.

Argyle's private and public schools receive high marks
Argyle's highly rated private and public education options have become a significant attractor for families looking to move in. The Argyle Independent School District receives an A-plus rating on Niche and is ranked the 5th best district for athletes in the DFW area. Argyle High School also receives an A-plus rating and has won numerous UIL championships in the last ten years in sports, academics, performing arts and marching band. "The schools are so family-oriented because everyone wants to be a part of it," says Sharmy McDonald, co-owner of the McDonald Group. "When there was a Christmas party for the school, they had to limit the amount of parents who could attend because everyone wanted to go." Liberty Christian Academy is a highly rated K-12 private education option that also excels in athletics and academics. The football team won back-to-back in 2023 and 2024, led by their head coach, former Dallas Cowboy tight end Jason Witten. Argyle is close to multiple colleges and universities, including the University of North Texas, under 8 miles away.

Argyle receives the Tree City USA distinction
Argyle is dedicated to preserving its natural surroundings, which is reflected in the numerous recognitions the city has achieved. Keep Argyle Beautiful is an award-winning volunteer group organized to enhance the area's local natural environment through motivational and educational programs. Argyle has also been recognized as Tree City USA, meaning 70% of the town is designated for tree canopy. Unity Park is the main outdoor destination, featuring a premier baseball facility, soccer fields, and a mile-long jogging path. The park hosts well-attended events throughout the year, including movie nights, National Night Out and holiday festivities. Other recreational options include Argyle Indoor Sports, a contemporary soccer venue that hosts leagues for youth, men, women and coeds, as well as competitive social events centered around soccer and cornhole. The town council approved a purchase of 4.6 acres in 2024 to develop Argyle's second outdoor gathering space. Outside of the residential pockets, much of Argyle is filled with open spaces, especially on the east side, as well as the Double L Stables. This equestrian facility serves riders of all ages and skill levels. It offers programs for competitive jumpers, a riding academy for children and the Double L Horse Camp, which provides an immersive experience that teaches about the horse "from the ground up." Residents are also close to the Denton Country Club, a scenic 18-hole golf course that winds across the north Texas countryside. Days on the lake are popular, with Lake Lewisville and Lake Grapevine both under 15 miles away.

Popular shops and restaurants along US Route 377
Commercial activity is very limited in Argyle, which is by design, as city planners intended to keep the area’s rural feel. However, the few local joints that line US Route 377 are incredibly popular, and most visitors know the waitstaff and their fellow diners. Little Joe's Farmstand is one of these local restaurants. It features a menu full of farm-to-table favorites with a charitable twist as proceeds go directly to the Texas Children's Hospital. Down the street, Earl's 377 Pizza draws a crowd during the weekends, while Kimsey's Coffee serves as the dedicated coffee house of the city. Argyle Party and Gifts features locally sourced craft goods, sweets and memorabilia from local high school sports teams. Groceries and major shopping centers can be found in nearby Denton, although the city's Comprehensive Plan looks to sustainably add commercial developments without sacrificing the town's rural quality.
Many commute into DFW city centers
Argyle is positioned between Dallas, Denton and Fort Worth, allowing residents to commute throughout the metroplex for employment. "We're 20 miles from Fort Worth and 40 miles from Dallas," Sommer says. "DFW Industry lives out here." Interstate 35W and US Route 377 are Argyle's main roads, and traffic can become congested during peak rush hour. Multiple projects are being worked on to address the increase in commuter congestion in the Argyle area, including road expansion and the Crawford Road Project. There are also plans to add bicycle lanes along Farm Road 407. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is 23 miles away and is the second busiest airport in the United States.
Community events through multiple organizations
Argyle has 17 churches representing numerous different Christian denominations. These churches often host weekend events and community gatherings. The Argyle Police Department also connects with residents through the Trunk or Treat event, bringing over 7,000 visitors. The gathering takes place every October and offers an evening full of candy, hot dogs, bounce houses and more. "We like to gather as families for fun," McDonald says. "There are always community events going on through the schools, local government and churches."
Crime and Environment
Argyle experiences all four seasons, with hot, humid summers that often reach into the upper 90s. Winters are mild on average, but the occasional cold plunge can bring sleet and snow. The city is on the edge of tornado alley, and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer. The Argyle Police Department serves the city. Argyle receives an A-minus rating for crime and safety on Niche.

Again, I just have a room for rent in the home in the neighborhood harvest in Argyle. There are a few rooms to choose from.
